So last Tuesday we had a baptism! Well the Hermanas in our district had a baptism. It was for this really awesome 9 year old girl named Gabby. I know the name isn't very Hispanic. I was a little disappointed too. She does have four names so I think that makes up for it. So me and Elder Porter were at the church filling up the font and everything because we do what the Hermanas ask of us. The font is probably half way full when we get a call from the Hermanas. They asked us if we could stop what we were doing and go give Gabby a blessing. Apparently she was very sick and didn't know if she would be able to be baptized. So we stopped filling up the font and rushed on over there! We got there and she did not look good. We asked her who she wanted to give her the blessing and she asked me! I was like oh shoot. She said I could do it in English, but still. I had given exactly zero blessings for sick people at this point. I knew that it was going to happen sooner or later, but yeah! So I give her the blessing and in it I said that she would be baptized. That is a very big thing to say so I was hoping that God was telling me the right thing. Right after it was over the mom told me that she could feel the spirit very strong. It was really cool because it was a less active family so yeah. That is when I learned that it is more important what you feel than what you hear. Gabby went and laid down on the couch and immediately threw up all over the couch. Well they got her a cup so I guess she only half threw up all over the couch. I was like shoot. I was hoping that this was a "sign" or something. I was very doubtful. I am very positive as you already know. After she threw up though she told me that she felt better! I was so happy. She then said that she wanted to get baptized too! So me and Elder Porter rushed back and filled up the rest of the font. She was baptized and it was a great night.
We had transfers last Thursday and nothing changed for me. Staying in the same spot with the same companion. We got a new zone leader though and I was kind of sad to see him go because he was really cool. The one that is staying I think I like more though so I was happy about that. The new zone leader is way dope though. We had this zone meeting to start off the new transfer with all the companionships in the zone. I was playing the piano for the opening song when the new missionaries walked in. We had two sister missionaries training in our zone so we were going to have two new missionaries in our zone. So there is this girl from Riverton that I know and she was coming in this transfer so I was kind of hoping that she would be one of the new missionaries because that would be awesome! Her name is Brooklyn Dutton. So I watch the new people walk in and one of the was her! I was like no way that is so awesome! I was really exciting because you hardly ever see anyone that you know! Now someone I knew was in my zone, crazy! I talked to her after and she seemed really good. She seemed a little nervous and confused which is exactly how I felt the first day. It was so awesome to talk to her though! I will hardly ever get to see her, but it was still way cool!
So I was thinking about ways that I could save money because it is tight as a missionary. I had the genius idea that I could cut my own hair! So I bought some hair cutting stuff and cut my own hair. Now let me say that it was far from perfect. My companion may have laughed when he saw me, but that was obviously because he was so jealous. I may not be perfect now, but by my last transfer it will be looking good!
There is a quote in Preach My Gospel that says," God expects us to obey Him so He can bless us." This seems very basic right? Wrong! It is very complex, but a very simple statement. I may be overexaggerating a little though too. This is so simple and everyone knows this. You are all saying,"Davis, we aren't idiots. That is the first thing that my mom told me when I was conceived." Well I am hoping that I can give you a different perspective on this. While I was in the MTC the great Jenny Oaks Baker came and talked/performed for us. She was a really good violinist, but not a very good speaker. My favorite quote by her by far was this, and I quote,"I just love blessings. I will do anything in the world for a blessing." Will you Jenny? Why would you do anything in the world for a blessing? The thing is that we have to do something to receive a blessing. We have to keep God's commandments. So God asks us to keep his commandments for one simple reason. So that he can bless us. So in reality isn't what got really asking us is if he can bless us? When God says if you love me keep my commandments what he is really saying is if ye love me let me bless you. God gives us these commandments so that he can bless us and no other reason. So next time you think about not wanting to obey this commandment think instead that God just wants to bless me. We really are getting the better end of this deal. Please let him bless you because he desperately wants too.
I love you guys!
DAVIS
