The Gnomes for Down Under - Week 9 - Monday, December 5, 2016

Hello Everyone! I have officially been out two months today! I would be say that time has flown by, but I could never tell a lie. It has been a lot of fun though and everyday things get better! I am learning more and more every week and that is really what life and the mission is all about. My companion told me this week that if there was a place that would prepare you for life it would be called the mission. That may not be the exact quote, but it was something like that.

So things have been going really good. We have one investigator that we are pretty sure we will be able to baptize and we met a family Saturday night that has so much potential that it shouldn't even be real. The husband has a brother and a sister that are both members of the church and his sister even went on a mission. Both of his siblings still live in El Salvador though. The husband said the closing prayer and in the prayer he said and I quote,"Please bless that these missionaries can change our lives." So that is our goal! To change their lives and bring them closer to Christ! Hopefully we can do that!

Spanish is coming. Slowly. On Friday we had a competition with me, Elder Porter and Elder Galvan to see who could speak spanish the longest. The agreement was that we would all speak spanish and the first person to speak english would have to but the other two a donut. And guess what! I didn't loose! I know! I am surprised too because both my companions are basically fluent in my opinion. I ate that donut very proudly. It was well earned.

So I did get sick for the first time in the field! It was great... I basically was throwing up all night. Yeah it wasn't the funnest thing to do at night. So after I was throwing up all night the next day we had a dinner. We showed up and my companions told the family that I was sick and I wasn't going to eat anything. They immediately had a solution that would cure me. They told me to go lay down on there couch, which was right next to the dinner table, and push on my belly with some force to get rid of all the bubbles. The dad also offered to do it for me. I politely declined. I also felt very uncomfortable doing that in front of them so I asked them if I could do it somewhere else. It is not like I could just tell them no either. This was a solution to my problem. So I went and did that feeling like a weirdo. Then I cam back and the dad had prepared a drink for me! It looked aweful. It was green and it had giant bubbles on top of it. Like some good quality snot bubbles. That is literally what it looked like. Before I drank it the dad told me that it looks ugly and it tastes ugly. So I chugged it as fast as I could and let me just say that he wasn't lying. It did taste aweful. Now I bet you are all wondering if I felt better after! Well I would like to say that I did, but I did not. I felt worse honestly, it's all good now though!

So something that I learned this week that I think is applicable to everyone is that decisions are so big! Even the little decisions that we make. In reality everything of the world is a distraction dragging us away from Christ. Even the things that are not technically "bad" things like our jobs or school. If it distracts us away from the real goal that is Christ then we are moving away from Him. Even our bodies are a bit of a distraction. Even though they are a blessing they are also a burden in a way. We are constantly worried about what to put on them or how we look. Our real goal here on Earth is to learn to let our spirits be in charge of our bodies. Our spirits are God-like and only wants to do the best. If we can submit to our spirits then we submit to Christ and that is our true goal here on Earth. So I challenge you all to find a way that you can get rid of a distraction in your life and also a way that you can focus more on Christ. While at the MTC Jenny Oaks Baker said," I just love blessings. I will do anything for a blessing." Will you do anything for a blessing? I hope you all can come closer to Christ and enjoy life a little more everyday!

Love You All!
Davis
